Message to students – June 9, 2022

To : College Avalon

Object : Message to students following Minister Boulet's announcement.

Date 9 June 2022

Dear Students

Like many of you, we were surprised by the unexpected announcement made yesterday by Québec's Minister of Immigration, Jean Boulet, regarding the revision of access to the post-graduation work permit. We understand from Minister Boulet's public comments that it will no longer be possible for students from all non-subsidized private colleges, such as ours, to have access to this work permit as of September 1, 2023. By August 31, 2023, it would still be possible for you to apply for a post-graduation work permit. You can find all the information here.

We are aware that this situation may result in questions and concerns on your side. This is why we are actively working with the other private colleges to gather more information from the government authorities. We will provide you with the information we obtain in a transparent manner as soon as possible.

We believe deeply in the value of our mission and the quality of our teaching. We are also convinced that Québec and Canada cannot do well and achieve its goals without the talent we help shape in our institution. This is even more true in the context of the current labour shortage. Collectively, our society can not spare brains, arms and hearts that want to contribute to its development. Therefore, we are currently looking at all our options. We will also inform you of our next actions. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your patience in this situation and for your confidence in our institution.
